I've read all Lauren Layne's The Wedding Belles and and Central Park Pact series and this will be forever my favorite. I know I've always have a thing for arranged marriage and marriage of convenience. Especially if it's an enemies to lovers type of story. Of all the contemporary romance novels I've read, so far I have three forever favorite and would really love to re-read them. This is one of them.
The Prenup is a story about Charlotte and Colin marrying each other for their own convenience. Charlotte will get her freedom (and money so she could start her own empire), and Colin will get a Green Card. Very soon after they got married, Charlotte moved to San Francisco to start her business and Colin stayed in Manhattan.
The story took place ten years after, when Colin dropped the bomb asking for a divorce. But it's not that easy because based on their prenup, they have to spend at least three months living under the same roof to get divorce.
I love every character in here, except Rebecca. I really love Charlotte and Colin's interactions, the way they work together to make the divorce work while also keeping their marriage fraud a secret. Such a fun teamwork to read. Also I love Kurt!!! He's so funny and such a fun side character to read.
The thing why I always love this kind of story is seeing the characters learn about each other and falling with each other slowly. I always love to see the changing of their behavior between each other and in this book, discovering that it'll be hard to let it go because Charlotte is falling in love with Colin.
Oh my God, I really love the part when they took a short gateway for Charlotte to teach Colin how to drive!!! Not to mention all act they have to show as married couple through the book in front of others!
As much as is it hurts, I love when Charlotte make her own move to make the divorce happen without telling Colin, on their final interview, because she's been hurt by Rebecca, being told that Colin proposed to her (when Charlotte is already so in love with him, and deciding that his happiness comes first, OMG JUST MY CUP OF THE INDEED!!!). Not to mention she fly back to San Francisco right after that, not bothering to face Colin and left things unsaid between them and discover that Colin felt the same for her (when it's near the end).
It was really fun, really.
Now I can't tell why this is my favorite book of Layne without comparing to her other books. For one, I think The Wedding Belles were about sexual tension and as much as I love the story, I can't help but feel like the sexual tension took most part of the story (even though it gets better and better every book). The book I've always read sometimes have sex scenes as a something like bonus decoration, because I always focus on the story. maybe this is why I find it lacking something on the series. I also think that it lack of relationship development between them (especially in the first book), while I'm all in character's relationship development (is that even a thing?) and really love to see their interaction went as the story took place, I can't really feel it in the couples of The Wedding Belles.
As for Central Park Pact, I have to say that it's much more better than The Wedding Belles. The stories themselves were fun and sexy (with zero sex scene), but still, it couldn't top off The Prenup for me (I read them few weeks after The Prenup). It feels like the story took part to fast at some places, maybe that's why.
On the other hand, I find The Prenup have a much better character's relationship development. And I find it not being rushed so it gave me time to take the scenes in, feeling the atmosphere and enjoying the story. It's like I'm being able to see them developing the feeling for each other step by step.
The story might be cliche even through the end, but this is still my favorite because how fun it is. (Also Colin is a British OMG I ALWAYS HAVE A THING WITH BRITISH).
The only thing I'm sad about this book is the ending was so short. I NEED MORE OMG!!!
Oh well but at least I still god a few epilogues so~
